I'm looking for a race-suitable early 911 engine - preferably running and reasonably fresh, but a long-block may work too. Can't afford to have one built-up from scratch so I'm looking for a solid used one, maybe with minor damage (overrev) or from a car that was crashed or upgraded.
Specifically anything between an early alum 2.0S up thru a 71 2.2E would probably work for me. This is for a class and budget restricted 914-6 race car. Baseline for the class is 69 2.0T (914-6) spec with an allowable swap to a 70-71 2.2T. To stay class-legal I can't deviate very far from that, either on heads (port sizes) or displacement. Basically either/or; 200cc bump or more aggressive ports & cams, not both. So far I have found almost no leads in the "usual places" i.e. here and Rennlist. Any suggestions on sites to watch, or leads on specific engines for sale would be greatly appreciated!

Supertec doesn't have anything listed on their site (the 2.0S longblock shown there as "SOLD" would've been perfect, but probably too spendy). Nada on TRE's site at the moment either, but I do check the classifieds there fairly regularly. I will try the PCA and POC sites & mags also; just remembered the PML (Porsche Market Letter) as well, but my subscription has lapsed.

![]() Serious answer = I can't afford a ba!!'s-out $25,000 race engine with unobtanium innards, megabuck injection setup and so forth. (If I could, there are lots of finished race -6's for sale in the $25-50K range I would buy instead). But I'm not necessarily looking for a tired 200K mile 69T either. I would love to stay under $5K if feasible; it largely depends if I can get decent money for the hotrod 2.4/four in the car now.

Early engine
I have just the thing....
914/6 case with 2.2S p and c's.....3% leakdown, 165lbs across, recently removed from my 67S (I had this motor in my car at Cambria RGruppe meet in 2001). Carbs rebuilt (40 ida 3c's) 500 miles ago, pressure fed tensioner update. Complete engine with shroud and 911 tin (but no clutch). I have the 911 muffler and heat exchangers as well, but you probably don't need them..... And this all fits inside your budget....call me for other details.... regards, Eric Linden elinden@earthlink.net, or 206 632-5158 |

Dyno?
We didn't dyno the engine....didn't seem important at the time.
This engine came out of Rodd Wagners car...he was at the first Cambria RGruppe meet with the black 69 full vintage race car, with numbers on the side. He put in a twin plug motor into his car (and so have I now in mine...). The engine performed flawlessly for me, and also for Rodd in the one year he ran the local vintage circuit. Blows no smoke, and is extremely tight. Engine leak downs are right in front of me....#1 2%, #6 3%, #2 3%, #4 2%, #3 2%, and #5 2%. Woody Perkins, local vintage racer, and early S member, also drove the car and will attest to it's strength. In addition, the motor is over at Redmond European right now, and the shop owner Monte will certainly attest to the fact that it ran nice for the times that he did the work on it that he did (Monte did the carb rebuild on the car, and did both swaps on the cars.....Rodd's and mine, so he has heard the engine many times...). regards, Eric |

You might want to call Dave Buhain @ Road & Race and see if he knows of any motors. (323) 660-7674
Good luck!
