Fiberglass lid install

I am installing a fiberglass deck lid on my SC and I have a couple of questions about the rubber buffers that are typically on the deck lids. Of course the original metal deck lids have cut-outs for the adjustable rubber buffers but my new fiberglass deck lid does not.

The questions are, do I need these on the fiberglass deck lid? The fit seems pretty good without them but will it cause problems if I don't install them?

Thanks in advance.

Lou, when I did mine, I experimented with several height snubbers till I found the one that brought the lid to the correct height for the fender gaps. Once you've established what size you need, just silicon them to the lid. I also fine tuned the height by adding some foam one-sided tape to the body crossmember to get it exactly right. (the geometry changed after I had it painted).
If you decide to omit these you will get chaffing on the fender paint.
I think I found them at Home Depot in a pack of 10 or so. (furniture leg floor protectors)
BTW you will probably have to drill several drain holes near the bottom (latch end) and in the grill recess to let water out - copy the factory tail for their location.

Whose lid are you using?

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the input. That would be better than drilling large holes for the rubber buffers. Also, thanks for telling me about the drain holes. Unfortunately I already dropped off the lid for prep and paint so I guess I will drill it later (bummer).

I am not sure who made the lid, I bought it used (but it was never mounted). It fit well out of the box, except for the latch holes. I needed to elongate the holes on the latch about a 1/4" for it to line up properly. Which manufacturer did you go with? How was your fitment?

I have attached a couple of photos of my initial install, because I know this forum like pictures.

Underside shot, notice the bar which works out great for my AC condenser bracket:

Thanks again.

That looks like a nice piece. Is the frame metal - one of Sonjay's?
My comments were based on my replica whale tail for my 85, so some of the drain holes might no apply to the duck.
Good luck with the install.
Mine came from GT racing - lots of 'fine tuning' required.

I wish it was one of Sonjay's. The entire lid is fiberglass, frame and all.

Your "fine tuning" paid off, your replica whale tail looks and fits great. I also like the bumperette delete.
