which rear bumpers for backdate project?
I have a 1985 3.2 Carrera with standard flares in rear. Which is the correct year/version of the back bumpers that will fit, or does anything I find have to be reworked to fit the flare?
Thanks, Mike |

If you want steel, you are best off having a pair of LWB (69-73) bumpers modified.

Definitely want steel. So nothing will work without cutting and welding?

Unfortunately no. Do some searching here. I've seen steel ones done DIY.
Or good quality Fiberglass reproductions?

Mike,
I spoke to Dave at TRE a few weeks ago about this subject. They used to modify LWB steel bumper corners for customers who were backdating. Unfortunately, they no longer provide this service. Dave told me that the RS flares are very close to SC/Carrera flares (both start and end points) but the mounting brackets will require modification.

Got them - about $750 each side. Very nicely made from Porsche.

Mike, I've been following your backdate thread. Great stuff! About the rear bumpers from Porsche: are they RS-flared? Would be curious to see how they match into the 3.2 flares. Please post pics!

I am traveling right now but back in Lake Forest late next week. I will start stripping the bumpers then, so it will be a little while.
You can come over and check out the parts. PM me if you want to inspect them. Here is the link that had me thinking it should work (check post 37): st rear flares I will post up once I start taking it apart. Mike Last edited by SpyderMike; 10-03-2015 at 07:40 PM.. |

To clarify, it is $750.00 per side - $1500 total for genuine Porsche parts.

Here is how the RS flares will match up. I need to modify the mounting flanges of the bumpers to remove interference, but the curve looks spot very close from here:

Installed loosely (cleco-ed without seals installed). They fit right.
