OT - Alex Zanardi hurt in crash

I heard via eMail Alex has lost 1 leg above the knee and the other leg below the knee. What a horrible accident.

I think it is AMAZING that he is even alive after watching that horrible crash! This week has definately been sad.

This is a shot of Zanardi at the 98 Detroit GP. Zanardi himself - the reigning CART champion at the time - had just spent 5 minutes rummaging thru the back of one of the team Target trailers looking for a photo to autograph for my daughter! He finally found one, came out with a smile on his face and then took time for this great photo. He made a couple of fans-for-life in the process.

This is just what CART did not need-a terrible accident involving one of it's few name-recognition drivers. Zanardi has a loyal following due both to his driving skills and personality. He will be missed. It's a great loss to racing fans and to CART..

His first CART victory? Portland International Raceway, Portland Oregon. He charmed the local press and the public. May he recover well, enjoy the rest of his life.
