Four Way Power Seat Issues
 

I just picked up a set of Recaro/sport seats with the Porsche script cloth which I believe are originally from a 944 to put into my new to me SC. The seats are a perfect match to my interior and much more supportive than the basic comfort SC seats. I have a couple of questions for those with knowledge of the driver 4 way power function.

I tested the seats out of the car to make sure I got the wiring correct. There are three wires for the power, Brown, Green/black and Red/black. Brown wire is ground other two are hot. When I hook them up this way the front of the seat cushion is working properly. When I try to actuate the back switch I get a bit of a click in one direction and nothing in the other. When I get the click I can see the motor make a very slight movement and that is it.

Is this likely a switch issue or a motor issue? Ideas on trouble shooting the problem? If it is either a bad motor or switch where can I source parts?

On a related note I am going to need to run a fused power wire to the seat. Seems like the best answer is straight off the battery. Best and easiest place to fish a wire through the firewall?

I don't know what switches the 944 seats have but if they are like my seats in my 85 911, you can take them apart, clean the contacts and put them back together. I had all kinds of grief with my drivers side power seat and it all ended up being the switches.

If you do take them apart, be careful. There are small ball bearings and a spring in the center that can get lost.

Seat switches look just like those. I'm going to pull the seat back out today and try the contact cleaner first then if I have to pull the switch apart. I have hope this is the issue which is easy enough to fix.

Still have to figure out how to pull the power wire.

While pressing the switches in all directions, flush the switches repeatedly with contact cleaner.

Fuse #1 25A (always hot) on the fuse panel is the correct fuse.

Pulled the seat back out and pulled out the switch. Sprayed a few times with contact cleaner and worked the switch a bunch. Repeated. Let the switch dry out a bit an SUCCESS! Everything working as it should.

Found a place to pull the wire through and then wired direct to battery with its own inline fuse.
