Hello all,
Due to a chronic back injury, I am at this time unable to work on my car, so.... I took it to a trusted mechanic on the north side of Houston, had him do an engine drop, and tell me what was necessary. He made out a list of parts and proceeded to let me know that he wasn't familiar with Porsche outlets however, he had contacted a source and gave me a parts list with a bottom line of over $2700. I told him to give me a few minutes and I would let him know whether I wanted him to do this or not. I got on the Pelican site and came up with a total of $1240. I told him I would have the parts drop-shipped to him in three days and to proceed with the work. Three days later he was absolutely astonished at the service, quality of parts, price, packaging, etc. He is now using Pelican exclusively when he cannot get anything locally. I know this is a long and rambling story, but, just wanted all to know of the great service and prices that are available with our host (as if you didn't already know), and finally just wanted to thank the Pelican staff for the same. Thanks again, Graybeard ![]()

Interesting....Does he typically have a 50%+ markup on parts? Remember, he is probably getting them for less that you can at Pelican. I do not mind paying a small markup on parts thru my mechanic, but this seems to be a bit extreem. Were there any parts that were much more expensive thru them mechanic vs. Pelican, or were they all more? Did he give an explanation as to why his list was so much more? Did he give you any grief about having the parts drop shipped?

Graybeard,
I feel your pain, brother. May your back mend, or at least subside. Good luck.

Hasn't he heard of SSF or the other parts wholesalers???
Seems odd that a shop would not just have an account with and buy from a wholesaler. |

BB80SC,
He showed me what was invoiced to him and offered that I try and find something cheaper. He was using an outfit out of Austin, Texas that interestingly enough had prices that were about 2% less than Performance Parts across the board(hmmmm........). Maybe this is why I don't use anyone other than Pelican unless absolutely necessary. The mechanic was more than willing to work with me in any way that I wanted to work with him. I have done business with him before on domestic cars and have always been pleased with price and service. Now that he is aware of Pelican he has said he will be sure to use them on anything that he cannot obtain locally, domestic or foreign!!!! The largest disparity in prices were concerning clutch kits. Almost $600 difference on that item alone. Ignition wires were almost $100 difference.
