74 911 What does this switch do?
Re-assembling my 74 911. There are two switches just above the ignition key switch. The rocker switch to the left should be the sun-roof open/close (shouldn't it?) and to the right is a small black switch which pulls straight down, what is that switch supposed to do?
 |
Bump. Come on, somebody must know the answer to this!
|
i can help with half...the first switch is definitely to open and close the sunroof. i don't have the pull-down switch you mention in my '74... for what it's worth if you haven't ever moved your sunroof before, i always 'assist' mine slightly with my hand to prevent a sticking point from stressing the plastic cables that move it along...if i've pointed out something really obvious to you, my apologies in advance!:D

a) Nothing is obvious to me.
b) I am not completely stupid, but the wires from the second switch run under the carpet and exit out near the torsion bar tube, where they now hang on the ground, so tracing the wires is of no help to me. http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...oilet_claw.gif |
hmmmm...
well is it possible that this switch was added by a previous owner? maybe it controlled fog lights or something along those lines? maybe those 'tasteful' fluorescent lights some insist on putting under their cars! Or does it appear factory? SmileWavy ryan Gold 1974 911 coupe w/sunroof + CIS |
Switch looks a little cheesy, but it is 'hidden' under the dash, wiring is definately factory.
Maybe it's that rare 'rear fog light' option. :D I guess I'll have to post a picture. |
I would guess the second switch is for a rear fog light...

Hmm,
I believe that the wiring diagram shows the rear fog light would receive current when the fog light switch was pulled on. The fog light switch would be mounted to the right of the steering wheel on the dashboard with the rest of the accessories controlled by knobs. (Rear heated window, etc.) Good luck, David Duffield |

I should have done this first, here's a picture:

Was you car delivered in Canada or Rest of World (ROW)? and not USA?
Makes a difference in wiring diagrams! ICON on switch looks like rear heated window? Good luck, David Duffield |
No, that switch is in the middle of the car above the radio. this is left of the sterring wheel, pointing down, like the sunroof switch.

Hello
OK the switch in the facia is the rear wiper switch ( see symbol ). The switch hanging out is a rear wiper switch too used from 68 to 73 cars. The same switch design was also used for several other tasks. Switch and wireloom look like factory. Rear fogs had ben integratet in the Fog light switch. Would be interessting to have a close look at the car to find out if ther switch came from the factory or was installed at a dealer and for what. One guess is that someone installed a switch for fresh air blower in the enginebay ( wich runs on pre 75 cars all the time ) or someone installed a switch to run the coldstartvalve seperate ? Thanks Roland, I am looking into the coldstart idea. No rear wiper on my car, no fresh air blower. Looks like a dealer/mechanic might have installed it.

Hello
You might not have a rear wiper now but the car maybe came from the foctory with it. All 74on CIS have the freshairblower siting "Ford Perfectet" on the engine. Cars built in mY 74 had that blower runing all the time with the ignition. Had been cahanged to switch on heat lever in MY75. Grüsse |
