Vacuum pump for A/C.

Well I have everything set up to pull a vacuum on my old Nippondenso system. Vacuum pump is working, all connections are hooked up . All valves are open. But when I turn on the pump, needle on gauge does not move....at all. My question is does the it take a long time before gauge starts to move? Never did this before so I do not know what to expect. I double checked all connections and everything seems ready to go.

No, it does not take long at all for a vac pump to pull negative pressure. I have a Robinair 3CFM pump, and it pulls maximum vacuum (-30) in just a couple of minutes.

You must have some valves closed or your service port connections are not depressing the Shrader valve needles. Double check that the high and low side manifold knobs are turned fully counter clockwise, and that the service port knobs on the gauge hoses (if your gauges have those) are turned fully clockwise.

Note of caution: turning the quick-connect adapter knobs FULLY CW might damage the Schrader valve, bent the release stem. Turn CW only until the gauge needle reacts.

Quite possibly what happened with Karl, post #271.

Yep, ha! Sometimes it's funny, in a point-n-laugh sort of way, but lately his level & frequency of BS-induction into the a/c threads has become sickening (or maybe my sense of humor needs a kick start ).

^^^ Hilarious, Gary!

Important, needed pic details - ww must be pictured sitting a safe distance back from the work space (in a recliner, of course), hands and clothes clean/free of car related grime, an open Toyota a/c service manual on his lap, and a laptop screen showing survey data for world wide perceptions of what constitutes comfortable air quality (because it doesn't make any sense to decide this on the basis of individual preference, right?).

Perfect description. Don't forget the SPAL catalog and "Pimp my Windowz" website.

WWEST, you are more than welcome to poke fun back at me and my picture post was not meant as a snipe at you but, merely trying to get a little humor out there.

Add Eric's and Dick's notations to Cornstarch's picture and my commentary regarding it, and we've got the makings of an excellent "how not to approach automotive a/c" poster or t-shirt!
