Odyssey PC680 Installation Pics
This Spring I updated my 50 lbs battery to the 14 lbs Odyssey PC680. Two reasons, first to prevent potential acid and rust issues. Second, why not shave off a little weight.
The new battery has been in the car now for a few months and it works great, perfectly all the time. No problem cranking and holding a charge. I drive the car once or twice per week. Someone may be interested in the installation pics. Total cost including all materials around $200.

Looks great! I'll be doing the same thing as soon as my Interstate battery finally dies. Problem is the damn Interstates are about the best, most reliable lead acid battery you can buy. I might be waiting awhile. I've already done my research though and know the Odyssey is branded under a couple other names (Deca, for one) that can be had for cheaper. Same battery, same innards, different name--less $$. Hopefully that's still the case when I go to get one.

I've been thinking about doing this as well, I think that other battery companies buy the odyssey battery and mark them up. Was $200 including the battery? Is the ground cable upgrade necessary?
My car is my daily driver so I need it to work very consistently, I live in san diego where its rarely under 70 degrees and I drive my car everyday. This is good for a smaller battery like this right?

Yes, the $200 included the cost of the battery. I believe the battery was around $130.
In terms of ground strap, I was not sure how the battery would hold a charge when sitting for a couple weeks so I wanted to add a quick disconnect. From there paying $7.00 for a new strap made sense versus using the old one. Turns out the disconnect was not really necessary to hold charge but I like having it.

I have been running the PC680 since 2006/7, with great success even with days that are well below 30F it starts no problem, typically when I do not drive the car I charge it for a few hours and just pull the -ve terminal when the car just sits.

I'd put a trickle charger on when you are not using the car - really helps keep it topped up...

You could use the Odyssey 925 if you thought the 680 wasn't quite enough. It's still a lot lighter, but with a bit more juice if you need it for some reason.

Ive used these batteries for over 15 years now mainly in large touring bikes. Never once a problem. Several have lasted well into to 8+ year range. I do keep anything I own that is not driven daily on Battery tenders though.
But I gotta ask to the porsche users? How does it hold up to the extra heavy draw of say an AC fan running all day in the summer. any issues with holding a charge? I think my 911 is about due for a battery and an Odyssey 680 sure looks like a sweet setup.
