Found a new way to break my 911.
 

Boy, did we (wife and me) do a dumb thing today. Inflicted pain and damage on our beloved little targa in a way never before witnessed by the universe. A beautiful day in Seattle, we loaded up my 10 foot carbon fiber rowing oars in the targa, made the drive to the boatyard about a mile away without incident, and had a great row across the lake and back. Drove home, no trouble, up driveway into garage ..... CRRACKK!!!! Wife had the oars askew and they hit the side of the garage. The paddles were wedged up between the package shelf and rear glass, and the impact moved the glass back a good inch, over the seals. Can't see any cracks in the glass; I guess next week I'll find out the extent of damage. Any recommendations for good body / glass shops in the Seattle area would be welcome.

I think you got off lucky. Could have been disastrous.

Good thing the glass didn't break. Now is the time to change the seal. Only use genuine Porsche.

Maybe John Walker could do it or hook you up with someone in your area. It isn't an easy job to install the back window in a Targa...

Doesn't look that bad. If the seal isn't damaged I wonder I you can pop it back in?

I noted this....be careful about blaming her, I did this to mine and she shut down some of my Porsche doings....

You are very lucky, could have been far worse! Should not be very difficult to fix.

I hope she does not see this.....but she must be a good sport if she rides around in a Targa.....and with oars sticking out!

For a pro. :) Personally, I'd prefer an engine drop over that job.

She's a great sport ... loves the Targa but foolishly agreed to my plan for her to hold the oars down as I drove ... actually, worked great up until pulling into the garage. When I remonstrated about how she should have kept the oars straight, she reminded me of my own past foolishness:

I saw her point and realizing it would be stupid to ruin an otherwise great day, we had a good laugh about the whole thing :).

Since it looks like the car survived, curious how your blades faired? Concept 2 or Croker? The costs to fix/replace those can be lofty. I'm guessing you are lucky they are sculling oars.

Sounds like you could be looking at another $1,000-$1,500 to replace the oars, no?
