So I've read that you can drill your air cleaner lid to increase the "performance sound" of your motor. Has anyone done this? Would you recommend? I have reservations about putting holes in and then not liking the results.

its just gonna give you a bunch of induction noise and maybe a few hp when you open it up thats all...
porsche actually offered a louder airbox on the very last of the aircooled cars, it was like a 250 dollar option... |

I did this on my 1985 Carrera a few years ago. I can't say that it sounds much different than before and I can't detect any power increase. It seemed to have zero effect. But try it, if you don't like it just cover the holes with Racer Tape,

Excellence had a tech article about this on a 3.2 engine a few months back. They said no power was gained on the Dyno.
