What are the Best Bilstein Struts for SC?
I am going to be replacing my struts on my '83 SC Cab soon. I drive primarily on the street (aggressively) with a few AutoX's per year. What are the best Bilstein's to use? I was going to get the Sports, but I see they also have Rallye/SP and Rallye, along with the Heavy Duty's - now I am really confused?
What do you guys recommend for a firm ride that feels sporty but does is not too uncomfortable. I have the stock sway and torsion bars, but upgraded ones are on my list! |
If you plan on upgrading the T-bars (22/28-29?), I would go with HD's up front, and Sports in the rear.

I plan on upgrade T-bars but am still running stock right now and will be for a few more months.
Is it Ok to go w/ HD front & Sport rear now? They are getting ordered tomorrow! |
I opted for the Sport inserts since my SC came with the sport shocks from the factory. However, I do not know if that was both front and rear, or just rear. I like the ride, not too stiff...but I still have to install the bigger T-bars, 22/27's. May end up with a permanent chatter! Anyone think the Sports up front will contribute to understeer/oversteer issues?
With all the doctors on this board, I expect a good response :) |
Are you sure about the HD front and the SP rear? From the Bilstein site they quoted SP fronts and HD rears, the same that my mechanic suggested (the Bilstein site suggested different packages for SP and HD, which both had the same part number for the rear?) They also had a RALLYE/SP package and a RALLYE package - still trying to figure out what they are?
SOMEBODY OUT THERE HAS TO KNOW?? |
Get the 930 Bilstein front struts they are thesame as the 911 variant except that they will include the HD inserts rather than the normal ones. I have used several combinations of f/r shocks. The hd front sport rear is the nicest for a mostly street driven car.

What are the part numbers you guys are referring to? Here is a reference table of the part numbers obtained from the Bilstein web site and how they recommend matching them up.
Setting, Front, Rear HD, P36-0112, B46-0169 SP, P36-0113, B46-0169 RALLYE/SP, P36-0115, B46-0975 RALLYE, XXXXX, B46-0180 After hearing your guys recommendation I am thinking 113's in the front and 975's in the rear. |
