Hi. New lurker coming out of the woodwork here..
I've owned a 1976 911S Targa for about 7 years now and it's time to try and fix the targa top. No real damage other than some vinyl wear, but it's not sealing right at the middle on both front and back (gapping). It looks like the center section of the top is pushed forward from where it should be compared to the sides. I'm thinking that I should be able to pull the liner off and do some re-alignment on the folding frame to get it to fit correctly again. Anyone have pointers to a good website, book or any other reference on how to work on a targa top they could send my way?? TIA! Lee |

Do a search on this forum because it has been discussed multiple times. Unfortunately the Targa tops aren't "maintenance free" so to speak, they do need to be adjusted from time to time. Occasionally, after long use they will also need to be recovered and the seals redone. But given the fact that you are getting a gap, I would almost hazard a guess that you just need to readjust the top (which is some allen keys etc).
Anyway, have a look over some past posts and good luck! |

Pelican has an article on recovering Targa tops. If you decide to have it done commercially, here are a couple of places that can be of help:
