Alternator Woodruff Key Size?
Help, I took my alternator in to get tested and they lost the woodruff key.
Does anyone know what size woodruff key I need? I have the alternator off and am heading to the hardware store tomorrow but I figured there may be someone who knows this answer. This is for a 1969 911T with a 2.2T motor. Thanks |
Well, it is probably an early S.E.V. Marchal alternator ... and I am not sure if a later, higher-capacity model will use the same size, but my spare 980 Watt Marchal uses a 15 mm long key. Your best bet witll be to take the alternator to a bearing supply store rather than a hardware store -- the selection will be much greater, and they will have more experience.

Chock up a few points for a very good vendor. They found the woodruff key and called me today. I have it in my possession. If you are in the Chicago area, look up Dispatch Auto in Addison. They rebuild starters and alternators and they guys there are very helpful.
