Bilstein front shocks ?

1 Attachment(s)
Hi,

Please help me with this:

My father bought on ebay a pair of front bilstein shocks at $ 100.00 usd that I already have on my hands. But I´m not sure that this shocks are Bilstein.

The shocks cames in a Bilstein box that says on hand writing 73-89 911 or 75-84 Turbo.

I have the doubt that this shocks are Bilstein because don´t say the brand and the color is like polished aluminium (the other bilstein shocks that I have are yellow with blue and I know that exist greens and black).

The shock are gas operated and the serial number is :

5195001H002 (housing)

B36-556A-9 ( looks more than bilstein numbers, this are in the plastic or mounts )

I can´t find the serial number in the bilstein web page but I saw that exist diferent shocks for diferent struts (boge, bilstein, koni)

I want to use this shocks on my 914 with 74 911 front supension.

My question are:

1.- Do this shocks are Bilstein ?, if not what brand are ?

2.- My struts are original, then are boge ?

Let me know

thanks and regards

In this moment I feel like !

For saving some bucks, I will need to spend a lot more to can use it.

I already call bilstein and ask for this shocks cartridges:

1.- Yes, it´s bilstein !

2.- But only can be used in bilstein shocks cartridges covers a with bilstein struts.

I believe that my struts are boge ?

Can somebody please tell me if can adapt this cartridges to boge covers ?

let me know

From what I recall, there are Bilstein inserts available for the Boge (black) struts; but, it's a different part than the one for the Bilstein strut.

This is from memory and might be wrong - if you don't get a definite answer I have a Bilstein catalog in the garage that might have the info you need.

My Bilstein catalog doesn't list B36 prefixes for any Porsche! So I don't know what you have there. (The box usually has a part number on it somewhere.)

For a 74 911 the options are R36-5001 (HD) or RE3-5050 (Sport) for a Bilstein strut, or for Boge struts P36-0112 (HD) P36-0113 (Sport) or P36-0115 (Rallye-Sport).

Those are Bilstein inserts for Bilstein shock housings. Won't fit a Boge housing. I know, since I was sent these once incorrectly instead of the correct ones.

You need to either get the proper Bilsteins for your car, or upgrade your struts to the Bilstein type (not found on the 914)...

Thanks for your answers.

I will bought a game of boge shocks to finish this 911 suspension conversion.

And I store this cartridges until I upgrade my other 914 to 911 suspension this time with bilstein struts

Bilstein Strut Inserts

Those appear to be the Bilstein inserts for the Bilstein strut bodies. If you look, you will see a small machined ring near the end of the small rod. These inserts are held in place by a roll pin that catches the strut rod at this machined area. The inserts go into the struts "upside down" so that the threaded rod on the big end is the part that goes through the adjustable mount that attaches to the car body. There are two bearing surfaces in the strut housing that the large cylinder actually bear against. They could be either Heavy Duty or Sport (heavier) inserts.

Good Luck!
