Thank you, Type911
I just want to publicly thank fellow Pelican Type911 for going out of his way last month to look over a 1988 911 Carrera before I had a PPI done.
Since I was 1700 miles from the car, I certainly couldn't just drive over to see it. I looked thru Pelican posts for someone in the Durango, CO area, and Type911 happened to pop-up. I emailed him and then we talked by phone. His thoughts about the car after he saw it were taken seriously by me and they helped guide some areas of the PPI at a local garage. After the PPI & leak down test, I flew out to buy the car and drove it back to Michigan on the heels of that severe jet stream snow storm Nov. 10th. Bottom line: Helping out fellow Porsche enthusiasts....that's the main reason for our bulletin boards and clubs. Thank you Chris for your unselfish assistance and immediate friendship. 356dog aka John Chatley ![]() |

Photos? Sorry I couldn't take time to take any, even in those beautiful mountains.
I was lucky to get out of the Rockies on unfamiliar winding roads! I knew the storm was up in Denver, so I took the Southern route to Alamosa & then hopefully toward I-70. As I came out of the hills, I saw this huge dark purple sky with billowing white clouds of snow off my left shoulder about 5 miles away and closing in. I pushed the 911 as best I could and then the door slammed shut with wind & snow and the sky went black. I made it to La Junta in the snow and hunkered down for the night. This '88 Carrera became my buddy real fast that 1st day. ![]() |

Great story, great car, and great intro to Pelican...from one Metro Detroiter to another. It is really possible to enjoy these cars here in the cold north-lands. Shoot me a PM if interested for some of the local events and interesting experts who can help. All the best, and drive like hell! Lyle.

John,
Glad it all worked out and you made it home with a big storm chasing you the entire way! Great way to bond, and as you know, there is no substitute. Keep us posted on the development of your "new" 911. Cheers, Chris
