The "tack and plumb-bob" alignment check is very clever! What I am wondering is how you would know: which side should the required adjustment be made? Or is this just a high level check to see if things are ok and if not, then use the method described earlier in the article rear wheels off?
I enjoyed your comments on DIY. Have just found that my near new rear tires have premature wear due alignment and checked the install invoice and found I paid a hefty sum for "specialized alignment".

It'll only measure total toe per axle, not individual wheel.
