Mirrors for 74 RS3.0 & 74-5 Carrera Euro?
Have recently been chatting with another Carrera Euro owner about the oem mirrors for the cars. His car is fitted with what he believes to be an RS3.0 mirror and is looking to go to oem. I did a little searching and need the experts to verify what the correct mirrors are for these cars.
For example this is the mirror on my '75 Carrera Euro (it is the small rectangular anodized type). I believe it to be original and correct for this car: ![]() RS3.0 white/gold with larger shiny mirror (possibly plastic?): ![]() Blue/Gold 3.0RS RHD (1 of 6) with the smaller anodized mirror: ![]() White/Gold with the larger plastic mirror again: ![]() Red/Gold with smaller anodized mirrors (passenger mirror optional): ![]() White/Blue with the larger plastic mirror: ![]() Silver with the larger plastic mirror: ![]() White/gold RS3.0 with RSR mirrors (nice pic!): ![]() The anodized one looks smaller and has a rim around it where the other is larger and shiny and the mounting fitment is a different shape. Which mirrors are correct for which cars?

The first white/gold car is a period factory photo......I believe that is the correct mirror.
The right hand drive cars may have had the smaller one?.....as your photos suggest.

Possibly, not sure where that leaves the red/gold car though. Was the larger mirror on the white/gold car plastic?

I know the RHD '74 Carrera 2.7 cars came with the round mirror for the driver just as the '73 Carreras did. I am unsure if those same round mirrors were used in '75, probably not. The correct RHD mirror in '75 is probably the one on your car and the blue RHD 3.0 RS. The black rectangular mirror on the 3.0L White w/gold graphics RS, is a black anodized metal mirror which is correct for the car.

How timely! - We're looking for these mirrors for 911teo's '74 IROC project also, and Porsche lists them as NLA.
We'd love any leads as to a source for these, as we have an immenent need for them! TIA!

Here are three '74 Carreras we've had here.....one U.S., one RS 3.0, and one IROC.......all have the large metal mirror.

aaron is correct- the lhd cars have metal mirrors that are finished in black. Same mirror as used on the usa and euro delivery street carreras / 911S.
The RHD cars most likely used the vw sourced mirror as shown on all of them. Brian- it could be that a few used a round mirror , like the 73 RS rhd, but i have never seen any early pics that show that. Whenever you order a rhd mirror for the cars- as we did years ago, the vw part number came up and it was no longer available. There is an aftermarket (large metal) mirror that is made in china BUT the black finish is painted, the crimping is a little off, and the glass quality is not 100%. The manufacturer also makes a rhd version of this same large mirror (with the same problems) I have been in discussion with the mfg about these details, and he acknowledges that they need to be fixed. But its been 2 years + since we started chatting about it. There is no indication as to when these reproductions will be available again in the correct configuration. As to the rhd oe vw version, there are no plans to make them- the tooling costs and subsequent small orders would be too prohibitive

Dave,
Dig out your copy of Original Porsche by P. Morgan. On pg. 53, Morgan shows a photo of a '75 Carrera 2.7 RHD with a round driver's side mirror and bright trim. I think the deal is the round mirrors came on the RHD Carrera 2.7 cars that had bright window trim and door handles. The RHD black trim cars would would have come with the black VW mirrors like on the first green Carrera in this thread. ![]()
