Power bleeding '87 clutch...

My '87's clutch pedal went all floppy whilst out on a drive last night and I just made it home. Seemed to happen in the span of a few minutes. Just before I purchased the car two months ago, the clutch, pressure plate and release fork update was completed.

I'm guessing it's a master or slave failure, but before I go ripping out parts I wanted to try and bleed her. I normally bleed my brakes/clutches with my motive bleeder, but wanted to see what you chaps think about the '87...

Thanks

I use a Motive to bleed the clutch on my 89 ... the slave is in a tough spot for access though.
You should be able to see where there is leaking fluid,it will give you a good idea regarding which unit to replace !

Cheers

Another quick check is to pull up the floorboard so you can see the pedal assembly. (One 10mm nut to remove.)

Move the pedal by hand and see if the movement is matched by the bellcrank on the right side of the pedal assembly. Lots of different things can go wrong in the clutch system from front to back. Make sure the motion goes all the way to the back of the car.

Looks like the MC is pretty wet... Table spoon or so of junk fluid poured out of the boot when I pulled it back... Seems like a place to start...

Replace both, master and slave, the slave lives a much harder life. I just did a 2 year bleed of my 2-3 year old system, both new, and I was glad I did, the fluid in the slave was like coffee.
Once replaced follow the recommended 2 yr bleed cycle for brakes and clutch.
My 2 cents.
