Removing glued velcro ...
My car's previous owner glued velcro on the dash to hold his radar detector, as well as the rear deck to attach speakers. No telling how long it's been stuck, but it doesn't peel off.
Any ideas how to remove without damaging the vinyl? Thanks, Greg |
Hi, Greg,
I would try to heat the area with a heat gun to soften the glue. Then try to peel it off again. Be careful not to heat the vinyl too much, it will melt if you heat it too much. I think the temperature is right when you can just touch it with your hand without getting burned. If that doesn't help, you could try to spray some WD40, CRC or a similar product on it. Wait a few minutes to let it soak into the glued area before you try to remove the velcro. Some chemicals are very good at removing glue, but will also discolor vinyl. Be sure to test this on a small non visible area first. |
Thanks Ove. Odorless paint thinner works, but it distressed the vinyl a bit. I'll give heat a try.
