Installing a turbotail with AC

I have a carrera with the tail-delete that has an AC condenser positioned under the grill. I would like to add a spoiler.

Would I need to purchase a spoiler with a decklid attached or can I just purchase the spoiler, attach it to my decklid, and reattach the AC condenser to the new tail?

The a/c condenser doesn't change places because you add a tail.
If you buy a tail, make sure it has all 4. Inner panels as a complete Carrera unit.

Not sure what you mean by the inner panels. Are you talking about the four rows of louvered vents?

What kind of tail are you talking about? Mounting is different for every kind of tail.

If OEM turbo tail, the three top mounting holes will be plug and play but the lower five holes will need to made by drilling holes into your lid.

Best way to do this is to remove the lid. mount the three bolts then draw the the other 5 holes and drill.

The top should fit about 3/4 of inch from the top.

Remember you need the proper Turbo lid to tail seal, if you order from our host make sure it is for the 930 not for the Carrera Tail, it is shorter

Also you will need 5 speed nuts and screw for the lower mount after drilling.

You do not need to worry about the AC condensor, it will fit fine after tail install.

Just helped buddy's 86 3.2 install his turbo tail. Caveat, if you are serious about doing this, you really need a turbo hinge for the passenger side or weld the support for the strut to equalize the pressure on each side when closed or it will always be lop sided.

PM me if you have more questions,

Jim

Thanks so much Jim, it is an OEM turbo tail I was interested in installing.

I didn't realize the Carrera tail was shorter and could easily have made an expensive mistake mismatching parts.

To simplify the installation, I will begin a quick search for Carrera tails (now that I know there is a difference)! If nothing turns up, I will see if I can locate a turbo hinge.

One other thing, if you add the big tail, be sure to add a front spoiler. You need to maintain the car's balance. Do a search on this site to see the discussions on tails with no front spoiler.

The lids are the same, its the cut out openings and base seal that are different.
Are you looking to buy a complete decklid with a tail, or are you trying to find a tail to mount to your existing decklid? It is MUCH easier to buy one complete and simply bolt it on and that's usually how you find them.

And is your car a wide body? If not, don't go the route of a turbo tail. Looks WAY to out of place, go with the standard carrera tail that would have came on your car.
