has anyone received their California plates from the Legacy Program yet?
Marginally P-car related. Mods, please move if appropriate.
I filed an application for the legacy license plate program that authorized reissue of California license plates from the 50's - 70's back when the program opened. I recently read that the required number of applications to proceed were indeed received . However, I have not received my plates nor been contacted by DMV. Has anyone who filed an application heard from DMV? Thanks |

I have not received anything and I placed my order via check the first day it was offered. I got a personal phonecall from the the head of the Legacy Plate division a few days later confirming my order & going over car details.
Since then, not a peep... A very long time passes by... Then... Recently, chap down the street bought a new 550i Bimmer and received his black gold legacy plates 2 weeks after applying. Wtf! |
That is our lovely state at work for yeah :-/
No problems taking money but services, fo get about it. |
Silly you, you must have not read the FAQs:
Q11: How will I know that DMV received my application? A: If your payment is cashed by DMV, your application was received and tentatively approved. Q19: How long after the program is implemented will I receive the plates I have pre–ordered? A: Approximately 9–12 months. I'm guessing that with the implementation of cable tv, internet, cell phones, prisoner unions, etc... in our prisons, productivity has decreased. |
I applied about 6 months ago as well. I was charged at least a couple months back, and still nothing here as well. Kind of frustrating, but it was exactly what I expected from any state run program, to be honest. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/burn.gif

I read about this program. Luckily I just got the original black plates for my bus re-registered. I have my Blue plates hanging on my wall for the 911 for when it gets back on the road. Oh and my post is marginally p-carish too...

I saw a new Charger on the freeway with black plates, at the time I thought i was seeing things. I thought the legecy plates were for YOM (year of manufacture) black plates on a 2014? It also had a 7 place number 3 alpha and 4 number instead of 6 place as YOM would have been. Also the CALIFONIA appeared stamped on the surface instead of stamped in the metal. I did not sign up for the program because of my concern of how much the new issues would look like the originals and a reference to the plates are to be reflective. To use the one I saw as reference I can plasti-coat my white plate black for my 62 bug. |
i skipped this program and opted to go the YOM route. find some period correct plates on ebay, CL or swap meets and you're good to go. took me a week.
