Wiring up three speed fresh air fan
Hey Folks,
Al here from Northern Ireland. I have recently bought a US spec 1973 911 2.4T. I am trying to get all the mechanicals and systems working properly before I strip the car for a major restoration - then I figure I will know how to put it all back together again. Currently working on the three speed fresh air blower fan. The bakelite plug at the back of the fan housing broke when I was trying to prise it out so the ordering of the four wires has gotten at little confused ( and so have I). I have figured out the two connections that go straight to the motor, a black wire that runs to the fuse box and a white wire that runs to position III of the fan switch on the dashboard. With these connected the fan will run at full power when the switch is at position III. It is the setup for fan speed at positions I and II that are giving me problems. These are designed to run through some sort of resistance setup built into the back of the connections to the fan housing. I'm guessing these are supposed to reduce the current and so make the fan run more slowly? All that is happening at the moment is that the coils are getting red hot. It looks to me like a switch should open when these connections are made but this is not happening? Has anyone come across this problem and been able to fix it or should I just be happy with the fan running at full speed at position III and do without I and II speeds?? Hope someone on here can help! Al. |
