Engine to engine stand lift

Hi, I've seen a few threads on this involving hoists and straps. I have purchased the host jack adaptor for a high lift jack.

Can't a jack raise the engine into an engine stand with a yolk attached?

Thanks

When you say high lift jack, are you referring to an engine hoist like made for removing small block chebbys? I would think that would do the job, not floor jacks even high lift ones.

I have an I-beam hoist in my shop so I have no problem lifting - but some advice I can give is attach the yoke first, and lift the engine slightly higher than the engine stand. Then you can easily pick up the engine stand to slide the yoke in.

I used my MotorCycle jack with blocks underneath the engine to get the proper height.

I think you can do the same but it will be risky on a standard jack. there is an OEM engine joist loop next to the breather cap on the engine too.

Attach the yoke first, three guys lift the engine and slip the yoke into the hole on the stand.. Done!
Well, that's what we do.

Anything will work. I used my dad's cheap "come along" and a beam in my garage. The engine isn't really very heavy, just too much for one person to lift usually. From the fully lifted motorcycle jack platform to the stand is probably less than 15".

Thanks guys - I actually meant just a standard jack that raises higher than normal with the host jack adaptor attached.

I want to minimise buying new stuff.

I bought one of those 1000lb hydraulic tables from HF when it was on sale and had a 20% coupon. Makes taking engine in/out, lifting to stand, etc. soooo easy. Love it.

With CIS and exhaust removed, one friend and I were able to lift the engine onto the stand. I put the yoke on first.

Now that it's time to remove from the stand, and I have added exhaust and pmo's, I will have two friends help me lift off the stand and onto the cart.

Built one from 4x4's and a come along. Worked like a champ and comes appart when done. Looked like a gallows but sure was handy, more than once.

Check Harbor Freight or such....there are high lift stands available.
Mine was one from Princess Auto here in Canada (like Harbor Freight) and cost me about $125 ... it lifted the engine to 32" if I remember correctly....so the engine out of the car...P201 installed and lifted onto a 1 ton style engine stand (the type with 2 front legs so the lift would fit beween them) was a breeze.
I built a spreader plate for the lift to keep the engine stabilized.
Made the whole operation a 1 man deal.

Keep it simple. An eye hook in a joist with a comealong does it easy.

Make friends and get a couple of guys to help.

Slide it on a lifting table and jack it. A hydraulic table is a great investmebt anyways since you will need to get the motor back in some day, and it is a great surface to lay tools later on when you are working on or under he car, not next to your workbench.
