Interesting article on the evolution of HP in 911 engines (USA)
So I'm a bit new to the world of P-cars and was reading about the older cars like the 911S from the late 60's and early 70's... pretty impressive horsepower numbers from the smaller engines before emissions controls (albeit with much less torque then the larger displacement motors.) Naturally this got me thinking that there lies a lot more potential in the later motors then is being realized... and before you say it, I know that this is $$$ dependent. A good discussion perhaps.
![]() Anyway, I hope someone finds this interesting: Flat Sixy: The Evolution of Porsche 911 Engine Size, Technology, and Output in the U.S.

Cool.
Your are right. Building a 300HP, 3L SC is doable and results in massive fun.

The article fails to mention that the cars got heavier as well (with the exception of the 991).
The holy grail early car ('73 2.7 Carrera RS) was at 10.5 to 11 lbs/HP. Duplicate that with any torsion bar, air cooled 911 and you'll have one fun car to drive.

Hmm...
Nice idea for an article, but I don't think it was done all that well. For one thing, there are a few errors in there (2.7l 930?). But more importantly, the author didn't give us a nice path to follow. It would have been nice to see the numbers broken down into hp per liter or something similar. Actually, that info could make a nice graph - Engine size, hp, and HP/liter over time.
