Options for 85 Carrera dash (not available form host)

Aloha,

My 85 has multiple dash cracks, Pelican reports the part is not available (even at $1.6K).

I recall a poster offering leather covering of old dashes some years ago. Somebody still offering this service? Recommendations for it?

Other options? Want it to look clean and finished - 'stock' is secondary.

Mine is black. Shipping to / from Hawaii is always a negative but likely few options (would favor single shipment and not have to send out mine...).

While I may have your attention - experiences on having seats re-lined? I have the original and love the current support - just need new leather on the lower parts (I think the foam is good) as cracks present. Good or bad experiences / tips?

Thanks from a fellow getting the 220+K miles Carrera he's owned these past 15 years perked up and in the process re-joining the BBS. Ordered the host's retrofit newed A/C kit... The daily driven Cayenne Turbo had put these thoughts on hold...

Mahalo,

Jean-Paul

You could check the used forum for a good used dash or I have seen guys talking about having a core recovered. I think as long as your dash pad isn't cracked through and it's just surface they can be recovered.

As for the seats, if it's just the lower and the backrest is still good, just get the lower done. I bought vinyl (gasp!) covers for my car and reupholstered them myself. If you bought the lower leather cover you could probably do it yourself. There are some good how to videos on youtube.

Aloha HawaiiJP,

Consider doing dash yourself. Takes several hours + much patience... but cost = penuts.

Mahalo!

I suppose I have little to loose attempting this myself (other than time...).

Thank you for the links, scary but inspiring :)

I have a spare dash cover in black for an '85 if you are interested.

Hello all. AIR did the restoration of the dash in my 85 and I was really pleased with the results. Great communication, quality work and on time.

+1 on Classic 9. They did a roll-bar for me, and get great kudos from others here too.

When mine cracked at 300k miles, I recovered it with alcantara, I really like the look and feel and 'non-glare'. In this pic you can also see I cut my visors in half to a reasonable size.
