First PCA Carolina Motorsports Park DE - Outstanding

I just have to let you all know that I finally had the opportunity to do my first DE. All I have to say is "What An Experience".

I was scheduled to leave this past Friday afternoon but fuel system problems (solved) made me leave on Saturday AM at 3:15 to arrive at the track 7:45 AM just in time for a tech inspection.

First class at 8:10 am, and on the track at 9:40 am. My instructor was a 10 year veteran who owned a 82 SC which he ran on the track. I was in the beginners group along with three other beginners.

Well, I must say there is nothing like learing how to drive a P-car the right way. The track has 13 turns one of which is a 180 close turn and another 180 turn which is a little more open.

The first day I had four (4) runs on the track - each one getting a little better. I did have the opportunity to ride with my instructor driving his P-car to find out what these machines can really do.

While he was driving I was watching the spedo - on the 180's - 60 mph - on the straights - 110. It's amazing what you can do with these cars once you learn the right moves.

Well, the next day I did much better and I had the opportunity to make the last two runs by myself. I can not emphasize how
much was learned during those two days. In the end, I was running down the stretches at 90+ and doing the 180's in the 50's.

For those of you who haven't had the opportunity to do this you must. There is no doubt that it will make you a much better driver especially when it comes to learning what you can do with these machines.

Steve

PS - there was a P-car there with a V-8 and you just knew it was a V-8 by the sound as it went by.
