Help needed with Ignition Points
I have a 71T with a stock 2.2. I've pulled the points and would like to replace them. I'll look up the part number of my distributor tonight. (Anyone know where the part number might be printed?)
Does anyone know the description or the part number of these points? Thanks; Don http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1411677306.jpg |
Pelican has the points. Depends on your distributor, Marelli or Bosch.
Bosch 616-602-226-02-M14 $6.50 Marelli 911-602-960-00-M47 $5.50 |
My distributor is Bosch. 0231 159 001. But my points don't look anything like the part number you have above. See my picture. Am I missing something?

This is what an 0231 159 xxx distributor and points should look like. Only need to remove the screw holding it to the plate. You should not have to remove the circlip.
Can you post a picture of what your distributor and internals look like? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1411684111.jpg |
Two pictures. One with points (just set in place) and own with them removed. My set did not have any kind of wire coming off of the points. I did just notice that there is an open hole in at about the 9:00 position in the side of the distributor. (picture without points. It looks like that's where a screw would be positioned and a wire from the points might go. Thank you for any additional comments. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1411685530.jpg

Is yours an early cast iron distributor? I believe they used 2 piece points. I'm not sure if it is the original distributor for the car.

Yes. Mine looks just like the one in your picture.

It looks like you would need part 616-602-226-01-M18
1967 Porsche 911 Base Coupe/Targa - Ignition - Page 3 From searching, I found this information. The 0231 159 001 is from a 67 T/S. 0231 159 008 came stock on a 911T in 1971. You might consider replacing yours with one of the later ones. |
Thank you. Those are the parts I ordered today. Simply because they look exactly like the ones that I removed. The more I learn about this car/engine the more I don't know. Thank you for the help.
