1976 911S built in June of 1975

HI everyone.

Today, I went to see a pretty nice 1976 911S US coupe. The model year of the car is 1976 (VIN 9116200188) but I noticed that the car was built in June of 1975, according to the VIN plate near the door catch. Isn't it a bit early to match the '76 model year... ?

Thanks

Don't think so. Mine says October 74 on the door, but it is a 75.

I've got one of the last '75 coupes to roll off the production line - it also has 06/75 on the VIN plate. The day of production is unfortunately not specified. The model year changeover could have happened mid- or late June, which shouldn't have been a big deal as a lot of the model year changes were phased-in during the later '75 production run.

1976 production started in June, and yours is not the only one I know of with a June date. The very first cars in a model year can be very early. The first 1972 coupe was built in March of 1971; no oil door either. The first and last production dates for a model year vary widely. July and August dates are more common. I think the only year when production began in September was for 1965.

Well yes, this is pretty normal.
