Dallas to WashDC - 964 - Part 2
Flew into Dallas early Sat morning - the now PO, met me at the airport. We concluded the deal, had lunch, and I was on the road back to Washington by 12:30.
Had a very nice, if fast trip back. Took the I-30 – I-40 – I-81 route – and got home Sunday evening at 5:30 EDT. (Even managed to listen to the Redskins 2nd half traveling up I-81) – Made Jackson, Arkansas the first evening at about 7:30, then left at 4:30 Sunday morning for the remaining 800+ miles - done in 12 hours. Needless to say, we were moving. There was construction in both Arkansas and Tenn, with traffic squeezed down to one lane, but speeds never went below 60. I was slowed a bit by three accidents, (all at the choke points where the lanes went to one – seems some folks don’t pay attention or were playing chicken) but otherwise, we were cruising between 80 and 95. That car is so stable and quiet, with gobs of torque. What a pleasure to drive on the highway! Popped up to 100 mph several times and once to 110 when I was by myself Sunday morning. I could not believe the number of trucks. Almost appeared that there were an equal number of trucks and cars. And of course, one has to wait patiently as one truck passes three others, with a 3 mph speed differential, depending, of course, on the grade. - Only problem was a very small crack started in the windshield, below the left side wiper blade, about 2 inches long. It appeared to stabilize, so I’ll just keep an eye on it. - Even though the PO took good care of the car, I plan to have all the fluids changed so we can start fresh. Valve adjustment was done about 9k miles ago, but think I'll have that done too, just to make sure. - Attached are several pictures of the car, the previous owner and me, looking like a pumpkin. (I get cold on airplanes!) - Thanks again, for all the advice on routes and two of you for the kind offers to pick me up at DFW airport. Chuck

It sounds like you had a great (uneventful) ride back to DC. We'll look forward to seeing you and that beautiful new car of yours at the next NoVA Pelican get together. Doug E is cooking something up for later this month.

Nice car, Chuck. Excellent color. I had a similar experience driving up from Florida where I got my Targa. It was (and still is) exhiliarating to hear that motor purring along at high speed.

Thanks for all the nice comments, guys.
- Daryl, Porsche changed the mirrors to aeros or teardrops in 1992. - The 964 forum on Rennlist has a good write up on changing mirrors from the flags to aeros. Wiring is different but the link therein provides the necessary information to make them work. - I noticed on the return trip that the aeros are actually smaller but the outward, pointy end provides about the same useful image as the larger flags. Did not take long to adjust |

So, this Friday, we're having the 928 Frenzy, and there's lotsa spaces (apparently). Bet I could find you a fairly good, balding instructor. . .
