engine harness conversion/modification
I have a 2.7 CIS engine harness. I have rebuilt the engine as a 2.7 MFI engine. I would like to re-use the harness. Has anyone that has converted a harness a quick explanation as to what I remove/add/convert?

You will need to compare the electrical drawings for the 2 years of engine configurations and the physical locations of the devices you need on the mfi and build it from there.
What controls do you need for the MFI? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Thought this would be easier...
I recognize that I could compare wire to wire...the CIS vs the MFI wiring diagram, but my wiring diagrams for the CIS are waterfall, and very different from the full page exploded diagrams for the earlier MFI. I was hoping somebody familiar with both could tell me what to delete on the CIS and what to add for the mfi.

I can tell you what to delete, and what to keep if you can tell me what you need for the MFI.
Do you need a constant hot? Do you need a start only circuit from the solenoid Do you need enrichment? Etc. I have built both MFI and CIS Engine harnesses, so if you tell me what circuits you need, I will tell you what you can keep and delete in a CiS harness. I'd also need to know what year the CIS harness is from as there are differences in the wire routing over different years. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

So I laid out an old '74 CIS and a '73 MFI harness side by side for you.
There are a number of differences in wire length, color coding run lengths and locations of branch circuits to devices. Other than re-using the 14 pin connector, reverse light connectors and maybe the main red power wires you might be better off starting from scratch. Knowing what devices you are going to use in the MFI would help me to give you directions. Here are some pictures for you to look at. The CIS harness is the old one, the MFI one is a new clone. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...e7526710f1.jpg http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...51f460a3d9.jpg http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...da4d67958e.jpg http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...3b02003a8e.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I have all the prints/schematics for both CIS and MFI and I can read both...
If you give me the device numbers on your print for the MFI components you are using I can tell you what you will need to do to make a working harness. No spark plug required.... :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Speedo, the easy way is to advertise looking for an MFI harness and use that when you find one. Otherwise, there is NO genuine easy way. GL |

Easy, I could always build one for him.. :) Willing to help him to do it himself if he would answer my simple questions. Even willing to tell him where he can buy the correct wires and connectors. (besides from me.) to do it himself. No response though, so without knowing what he has for an old CIS harness and what controls he wants to use on the mfi's like the throttle switch, air box heater, etc.etc. I can't tell him what he needs to do.
