Rust protection necessary?

I have a beautiful red '88 911 Targa that I want to keep forever. Unfortunately, I live in Indianapolis, Indiana where they salt the roads once or twice a week (or more) in the winter.

Is it a good idea for me to get my Porsche rust-protected by Ziebart or some other company?

I hesitate to do it because it seems that the coating they apply makes the car sticky/gooey in places and makes it heavier overall.

RI is a heavy sallt usage state too. I drive mine year round until they salt the roads. Then I drive my trusty areostar (the bus).
I'd post a picture of my van but it's too ugly.

Buy a reliable winter car and keep the porsche salt free.
