915 experts: shift rod bushing in nose cone, replace??

I acquired a replacement nose cone because mine is leaking due to a cracked speedo output flange. The shift rod input flange had an old seal (taken out) and a what appears to be a linear ball bearing. The bearing cage retains the cage, and has some surface rust but the bearing cage freely slides between the ends of the metal tube about 1/4 of an inch. I don't recall ever having seen this before. I wonder if it is an aftermarket part. See here for some cell phone shots:

In the WSM this item is identified as "shift rod bushing" (12) and the WSM says "replace". I am assuming I need to heat the housing to 125 degree C and then drive it out with a suitable punch. I sure doesn't come out with slight tapping and no heat. At this point I don't want to damage it and be screwed.

In PET this part isn't shown at all, only the seal (26) is shown

Any suggestions where to go from here? Leave it alone and let the gear oil take care of the surface rust or try and replace it? Where would I get this part?

Thanks,
Ingo

Ok, curious what others think. Anyone know about a source for this part in the U.S.?

Thanks,
Ingo

I do not know how to use this site sorry, if it is not in the wrong place. 79 SC-US Model. Car will not go into reverse. Loosened Allen screw on shifter and loosened the clamp before it (toward dash). Put shifter to the left while still in neutral and then tightened both clamp and Allen screw. Still will not go into reverse. I have seen a mention of rocking the backend of the car and things have begun to work, mine will not. Thanks
