THere's a porsche (motor) in my basement

Well the disassembly is progressing nicely. Most parts are getting moved down to the basement as they are removed. Tagged and bagged.

Here's a pic from the basement and one where the exhaust valves hit the pistons.

Chris:

Your pictures of your engine (and other parts) in your basement bring back memories. I built my 2.7RS MFI engine in the living room of my townhouse while I was living in Lafayette, LA awhile back. Since I only had a carport (not a lockable garage), there was no way I was building that expensive engine on the patio or in the carport, and have someone nab it while I wasn't looking. I layed down some visqueen, had my engine stand there, and just began assembling all those spankin' new parts in the comfort of my living room. Did I say I was a bachelor in those days? Those were the days. When I was finished, I almost freaked out because I thought I had built the ship in the bottle. I wasn't sure I could get it out the back door. But with a little creativity, I was able to get the engine/engine stand out the back door and into the back of my pickup truck. I had a shop install the engine for me.

Anyway, just wanted to share my experience with you. Hopefully you have a garage to do your reassembly in, and not just the basement.

Chris;
Were you racing with CIS pistons?

John,

Yup.

In fact, the motor was bone stock out of an 82 SC. I only added Webers, an equal length exhaust manifold, and mod'd the cam timing slightly...

Just goes to show you (after beating many of those 500hp 'stangs and Vette's) that HP isn't everything... In fact I'm glad it was stock to learn on, because I was able to get a lot of driving knowledge to compensate for having a street motor against all those high-compression tricked out race motors..

Now THAT would have been a funny story!

Reminds me of my college days - I had my roommate help me drag my Kawasaki 550 into our apartment so I could disassemble and work on it in the living room.

Our apartment was on the second floor! And, there was a turn in the staircase going up.

We weren't allowed to work on cars/motorcycles in the carports. Didn't see any restrictions about the living room, though!

ohhhh - Chris I think that there will be some serious spanking of the "pony cars" next year. You've been running a Q-ship! Now that you've lured them in, it's time to unrig the deck guns next season! I'm sure they're patting themselves on the back about beating that lil white Porsche. If they only knew what was going to hit them next year....

LOL.

That was my plan along along, Muhahaha! (I can use the SCWDP laugh because I use an SC motor now)

I'm looking forward to next year, unfortunately it's going to be a 6 month wait to see what a 40% increase in power feels like...

I hate winter.

Its so easy to build a more powerful engine. I am in the middle of an easier project.... removing 400 lbs from an early tub

"I built my 2.7RS MFI engine in the living room of my townhouse"

That's funny! And it reminds me of when I was kid in the 60's. We had a fairly large dragstrip near town and there would be a big national 'points meet' once a year. They all stayed at the Holiday Inn 3 blocks from my house. The parking lot turned into a huge paddock area (and place of amazement for a 12 year old kid!). Of course, it was always more comfortable to rebuild the motor in the comfort and privacy of your shag-carpeted motel room with one of those new-fangled color TV's. And the bathtubs made convenient parts degreasers for some teams!! It was not uncommon to have several top fuel dragsters start up and shake the entire neighborhood! -- Curt
