Question Any photos of Ossi Blue Cars?

I am looking for photos of early 911's painted Ossi Blue (6803 I believe). Lemme know if you can help out.

Cheers, Chris

No offence, but that doesn't look like Ossi Blue. My car was Ossi Blue (and several hidden sections of it still are). Ossi Blue is a lighter colour... it leans towards a royal or french blue colour.

It now appears that the previous owner of my car painted it "Arrow Blue" and not "Acid Blue" as I thought he told me (long story, but it explains a lot!).

A member of this board (RsexS) owns a genuine RS Touring in "Sea Blau". A really spectacular colour if you are replicating an RS.

This is my car now, I can tell you it is not very different to the original colour under the engine lid.

John,

I'm with you on this one; the car above seems a bit dark to me. Yes, I am in the market for an early blue color, and I will check out Sea Blau.

I thought Ossi blue was more like this photo.

By the way, your car looks super.

Cheers, Chris

1968-1969 Ossi blue 6803

This is from the porsche colour chart,
but some one posted this link a while back that is a great help for these sort of questions Paintscratch.com

6803 on above link does look a touch lighter

Chris, that definitely does look Ossi Blue for my money. MrKJBlue, thats the problem with time/age/different brands of paint... it becomes really hard to correctly ID paints and colours. I'm at work at the moment, so I don't have access to my references etc... but I really feel the darker blue you have there is not Ossi.

Chris, I'll forward the photos Cees (RsexS) in Holland sent me of his car. Very nice blue, he thinks it could also have been called Oxford Blue in some countries. You may also want to check out Arrow Blue (it was apparently a genuine RSR colour in 1974) and the colour my car is now.

Chris & John-

I believe the car that Kevin posted is indeed Ossi Blue, just bad (dark) pictures I think. Here is the same car, with owner. Notice the same license tags.

Great color by the way!

My favorite "911 Blue" used to be "Petrol Blue". However, I have now officially changed my preference to "Arrow Blue", thanks to Fishcop!

Arrow Blue (305) was a 1976 911 color, but the factory sample I have looks darker than John's car. The closest 911 colors to John's car (as far as I can tell from the factory sample book) are the 1973 (326) Glacier Blue and the 1974 (336) Mexico Blue. Both are very similar (Mexico Blue might be a touch lighter) and would look great on an RSR look car, Chris.

Guys,

Thanks again for your help on this one. Photographs can be a challenging barometer for relative color comparison. It is interesting however, how different a car can look on film. As an example, I know Eric Linden's car does the same thing in print. Some shots you'd swear it was almost gulf blue, others it looks much much darker than reality.

Randy, you are catching my drift. Thanks for the vote of confidence on my choice. Likely, I'm gonna' mix up the colors that are in the ballpark, and do a bunch of sample spray outs. There's no substitute for a back to back comparison in the daylight.

So, is it blasphemous to deviate (even slightly) from a factory hue? It's tempting to go to the Glasurit chart and mix up the ideal color of my choosing. Nonetheless, I'm hesitant to go with a metallic; I'd like to keep it in a period solid color.

Cheers, Chris

Eric, great call... I didn't realise there could be such a variation in photos. Then again I have noticed that my own car's colour varies depending on light, brand of digital camera and monitor settings. It certainly vindicates MrJKBlue.

Chris, I can't see a problem with mixing up a colour that appeals to your eye. I would carefully note the combination and I'd stick with a solid colour as matching will be hard enough over time without adding metal to the equation. Like I said, I'll send you some photos of a genuine RS in Sea Blau.... I think it'll appeal to you.

Cheers

That is sweet, John.
Are those 7s & 8s?
It is very strange (for me) to see a car without a left side mirror!

To get back on thread....Great color!

One more. The only shot I have at hand. It's an old picture of a freshly washed Ossi Blue. The car was painted and sat for 5 yrs. The paint had not been color sanded. This wash was in fact the only time the paint had been touched since it was sprayed. That's the way those projects go...

There seem to be a few shades of blue around. Can any one confirm that this '74 3.0 RS is Mexico Blue?

Yeah, I believe that's Lord Mexborough's (sp) '74 3.0 RS in Mexico Blue. Like we've been noting the color printed here looks a little off - lighter in tone in this shot?
