help with 1970 911 center support frame

Guys,

I took my interior apart and need some help putting the interior center support frame that glues onto the dash. This is the aluminum piece on the dash that surrounds the radio and heater controls.

1. What is the hole all the way to the left close to the steering for?
2. What is that black piece that has the same shape as support frame for?

My guess would be that the hole is for some optional switch that is not installed. These cars were built with holes and wiring harness connections that are only used if you have the option. Not a clue what the black piece is. What is it made of?

Thin gauge metal. I think it sits behind the heater bezel but would like to confirm with someone else. I thought it was used to keep the radio and heater at the same level but have no idea.

IIRC, the hole just right of the steering wheel is for the switch for the optional Webasto heater.

If memory works the black metal piece is what the front trim (vinyl or leather) should be clued to.

And I assume the black piece gets glued to the aluminum?
