So what makes an SC?

Body?
Engine?
Any part of the car?

We all know that the soul of the car is the engine - so is an SC still an SC when it gets a 3.6 (you know who you are).

But what about SC bits in a non-SC? Even I can muster a few SC parts (the engine case, crank and heads, even a gearbox).

I think there are a few SC pretenders out there ;) MUUHAAHAHA {wheeze}. Cracks are forming in the great empire.

Put that in your SCWDPipe and smoke it :D :D :D

haha you guys are too much, I haven't been on this site for months and you're still keeping the SCWDP talk going... awesome! I just want to say that when I can afford one, I'm joining the SCWDP... I can see it now, 83 black coupe w/whale tail....:) So is the sticker production still going on?

You can't actually pin point what makes a 911SC. ITs the smell when you first get in it, its the feel of the car when its idling in your drive way, and then when backing out and putting it in 1st gear. And then that first time you go through the gears, you know, kind of like that first sip of beer on a hot day, after cutting the grass.
You will never understand until you own one.

Back to the question, what makes an SC?

I see that Moses is going to replace that under powered 3.0 with a 3.6 - will he still be welcomed as a member?

I owned a 1986 Carrera and a 1980 SC at the same time - guess which one I sold!

From what I've read the SC was supposed to be the swan song of the 911 and the 928 was to carry the torch. To seal the deal the SC was detuned and bloated to make it less attractive forcing the spotlight on the 928. I'm leaving out names of Porsche leadership here cause I don't know them without the reference materials that sit on my desk at home. Anyway, after public outcry and dismal 928 sales, the guy in charge gets capped and a new director takes over whose primary mission it was to restore the 911 to its previous status. The Carrera was the result of his efforts.

I really don't want to start a *HUGE* fight here, but I thought the Carrera 3.2 was supposed to be the 911's swansong, and then they became serious again and made the 964.

I own an 83SC and am now thinking of selling it and buying a 87 Carerra. Why? Well lets see... The smell thing, crappy AC, so so gearbox, 190hp, NO headroom(sunroof version)... Other than than its the best car I have ever owned!!:D

I kin recollect way back in nineteen and eighty six, I had my first. She was a white on black sunroof coupe, born in '81 with 5k miles, not a blemish on her youthful skin... Offered at $14,500, and I couldn't afford the insurance.

My opinion as to what makes an SC (as compared to my '72):

The SC is much more civilized, sophisticated and luxurious (remember - the one I drove was new for all intents - I have no idea if these conditions had any staying power)

The SC was quiet - even when you put your foot down and she slammed you into your seat.

You smelled leather.

On the other hand, with an early car:

You get raw, unbridled, savage response. You have to hang on to/with her as she throws herself at everything you desire with wild abandon. No extras here - a lean mean performing machine without an ounce of fat and no pretenses.

Who wants quiet? Theres nothing like the music of an MFI car up on cam.

The smell of unburned gasoline and hot oil.
