Question 360 or 720 degrees?

Hi

While doing my valve adj this past weekend and turning the motor around and around, it ocurred to me that I hav'nt a clue about the following.

Is a 1000 revs per minute equal to 1000 360 degree rotations of the crankshaft

or

Is a 1000 revs per minute equal to 1000 720 degree rotations of crankshaft

i.e. is one rev calculated each time cylinder one fires or each time cylinder one reaches the top.

Sorry if this does not make sense, its been a long day

Cheers Jakes

A revolution is a revolution. A complete engine cycle takes two revolutions.

Ah, and by the way (here's the fun part), 1200 rpm is twenty revolutions a second. 6000 rpm is one hundred revolutions a second. Let me repeat that. One hundred revolutions per second. I have bolted engines together, but I still don't really believe that they can stay together under these forces. I mean, they do stay together, but I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it myself. I still think that magical forces are the only way to explain this.

and a top fuel dragster engine in 1 (4.30 sec) pass (without burnout) only turns over 534 times in 1/4 mile...or something like that.

and it uses 1 fl oz of fuel per cylinder, per firing, each firing, for the whole 13 gallons down the 1/4.

these numbers are approximate, I'd have to redo the math to get the actuals...
