Bilstein Struts

1 Attachment(s)
Just got through putting new Bilstein H/D inserts on my SC. It is lowered to the 25" rear / 25.5" front height. When I installed the new strut inserts, I left the rubber snubbers on the struts just as they came out of the box. Now, the front end is quite stiff (handles well, just feels stiffer than I was expecting). Should I have removed or shortened the rubber jounce snubbbers? A little late now, but would like to know.

Thanks,

I don't have an answer, BUT I will trade my house for your garage! NICE GARAGE!

When I installed the Bilstein sports,

the rubber snubbers were removed. I did this following a conversation with Bilstein engineers. There is a metal donut that goes on top of the dust cover between the cover and the underside of the shock tower. I seem to recall the explaination for removing the rubber being the Bilstein piston is reversed from other manufacturers. If you want to be certain, give Bilstein a call.

I had to take one loose this weekend because the threaded nut backed out a couple turns. I didn't get it tight enough the first time.

Bilstein Struts

Todd,

Thanks for the offer, but unfortunately that is not my garage. It is the shop area for a specialty used car dealer in Marietta, Ga. That was the only good (read clean and polished within an inch of its life!) digital picture I had handy of my car. By the way, the paint is black metallic and the interior is tan leather.

Fred - Looin' good! What shocks did you put in - HD, Sports? I am going to redo mine and still confused as to the stiffness?

I used the Bilstein H/D in the front (in Bilstein strut housings) and the Sports on the rear. Seems to work pretty well.

Check out this link;

I did this and I really like the results. I have the Bilstein sports all the way around and 22mm T-bars front, 27mm rear. I also removed the 10mm spacer at the top of the strut. I love the ride. My SC came with the Sport shocks from the factory, but I do not know if that was front and rear, or just rear.
