Right Side Oil Cam Line Leaking, Help..

I have a 72 911 T with the updated Tensioners.

My right side oil line is leaking a bit from the left side where it attaches to the case. There are three places on the left side it could be leaking from. I have cleaned it off, and can not tell which of three is leaking. It could be all..

1) There is a fitting on the top of the adapted oil line that has an allen key. I have the adapter block, not the temp sending unit on this line.

2) Where the line meets the case.

3) Where the line passes through the adapter block.

A few questions:
1) How much oil is going to spew out if I remove this line without draining the oil from the car?

2) What is the best sequence for putting this line in place?

Thanks for your help.

ian

Ian,

No more than a tablespoon of oil dribbles out when you remove that line.

Is the leakage all over the adapter block and fittings ... or is it weeping out at the tubing and swaged ring junction? The leaks at the swaged connection are fairly common and a very easy fix ... just replace the line and compression ferrule. You can reuse the old nut or replace it, your choice ...

IAN, I had the same problem a few years ago. If you do not have the supporting clamps that attach to the lines, vibrations can cause hairline cracks in the line. Check with Pelican or your local dealer; 4-5 bucks per side for the support and around 25 for the new line. Good luck.

The leak appears to be around the block, I used the compression washers....

How much torque to people like to apply to those lines?

Ian,

I'll assume you didn't re-use the old compression washers. I did, and mine leaked. Make sure it's new.

How much torque? Just enough, and NO more. You don't want to overtighten you'll stip them, I had to go back and tighten everything down further once again to stop my ferule from weeping. I was gentle.

Do you have the clamp kit to reduce vibration as was stated earlier in thethread?

Keith

Garage
Sometimes if you use some sandpaper to roughen up the compression washers and clean up the surfaces they seal better as well. Just my experience...
