Low beams and high beam (momentary) only, on 83 SC. High beam switch is a year old.
Replacement already? Oh yeah, it happened within 8 hours of replacing the steering column bushing. hp ------------------ Howard Parker hlpdobro@intr.net 83 SC |

Steering column control-stalk switch, maybe? It CARRIES, and SWITCHES all of the current to your headlamps!
Unless, of course, you have installed relays with separate power source! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa 1992 Dodge Dakota 5.2 4X4 parts hauler |

I _knew_ you were going to say that. I guess I'll try to find out why a nearly new switch went south.

Must be the season.....my stalk switch welded itself closed last night - stuck on high beams, accompanied by the familiar smell of hot wiring. Ah well.....better get some relays rigged up PDQ!

It must be the season. My '81 SC joined your club.
Only my right low beam would work and when I hit the high beams only the left would work, but both bulbs are good. Last night I installed two relays, one for the lows and one for the highs. Really easy in less then an hour. I had an extra (three fuse) fuse block from the engine compartment, and mounted it right infront of the original fuse block above the battery. Bought two relays for $3.49 each. Pulled the two low beam wires from the bottom side of the original block, added spade connectors and pluged them into the relay. Pulled the power feed from the top of the original fuse block, added the spade connector and used it to trigger the relay. Ran a wire from the battery to the "new" fuse block through a 25 amp fuse then to the relay. Ran another wire for the ground to the relay, and was done. Of course did the same thing for the high beams. Everything works great, the relays are infront of the original fuse block, and under the "new" one. No wires were spliced. Nice "factory" appearance that uses the factory fuses. Oh yea the important part, all my light work! |
