What is this

Hello guys,

Can anyone tell me what the electric cable is at the back (right) of the picture - on the hat shelf / parcel shelf ?

It is not connected to anything in my car (1987 3.2 coupe).

Many thanks,

Kurt

That's the cable for the rear window defogger. It's supposed to be routed inside the groove of the window seal, through holes in the seal along the vertical edges, and connect to the terminals for the electric defoggers. If your rear window has been replaced and does not have the defogging circuit, or the seal replaced, it is often left out due to the hassle of trying to connect through the seal.

Same answer as above, but my third brake light wire is routed through that corner, too.

Many thanks.

This does make sense. The rear window seals were replaced by the previous owner.
No third brake light installed, so it must have been too much trouble to rewire the window defogger.

Case closed !

FWIW - I replaced my seal. Need to cut notches in the new seal to match with the old seal for where wires pass through seal to the connection points up the window. PITA.
