Roll bar question.
 
I just bought a roll bar for my C2 Cab. It is made for a C2 coupe. It will work, but I need to modify the angle and length of the two support bars that angle down and to the rear. My question is: Where should I make them mount to? Could someone post a picture of their Cabriolet roll bar installed? Mine is an Autopower, if it matters. Thanks in advance!

Someone please respond. I'm trying to get this thing in as soon as possible so I don't end up looking like the Ferrari victims on the "Tragedy" post. Plus, with the roll bar I can officially "save it for the track" as I will now be track-compliant. Do your part to keep Tyson's innards where they belong!

Thanks JABB. I figured it out. I looked at the DAS rollbar pictures and saw that they attached to the rear seat belt anchors. Good idea. No hole to drill or carpet to ruin and it should fit the 72 as well that way. By the way, It looks great! It profiles the headrests nicely so it doesn't affect the profile. It gives it a racy, purposeful look. I'm going to leave it in all the time. Next come the 5 point harnesses and a nice racing seat. God I love this hobby!

I have an Autopower roll bar with diagonal and harness mount sitting in the garage waiting for me. I got tired of waiting for Das-sport to get a 83 Cab in for a special fitting. I would like to see a couple of pictures also. Thanks!

Jack Olsen has some on a website that he took of my car. I don't know if they give a good view of the mounting and such, but they'll give you an idea of what it will look like aesthetically.

Tyson,

It looks better than I expected!!! I'm considering the DAS-sport bar although I'm concerned about cutting up my parcel shelf. I may even remove the parcel shelf and have a stereo guy make some discreet speaker enclosures (gotta have my tunes) that can be secured appropriately.

OK, one more question. . .are those the original C2 wheels or Mille Miglias? I have 996 twist wheels on my 94 now but I really like the look of your cups. Lemme know.

I am considering a roll bar for my 91 C2 Cab, and the one in the pictures above looks great. But I am a little lost by this thread. What kind of bar is that? Was it modified to fit or bolt in? Are the rear seats and belts still usable.

Thanks Jack! Mike, those are the original wheels that came on the car when new.

The rear parcel shelf doesn't need to be touched if you use the seat belt anchors for mounting. But if you are tallking about the extra shelf that replaces the rear seats, then yes, you have to remove it. There is also no getting around drilling holes in the floorboards.

This is an Autopower roll bar that has been modified.

Tyson,

Are they 17" wheels? From the pic, it looks like they may be. Anyway, has your car been approved for DE with the bar installed (if so, how did you like it on the track)? One of the reasons it looks so nice is that it does not appear to stick up above the seats by very much. I've seen others that stick up considerably. . .supposedly to pass the "broom-stick" check.

Mine was done down in El Cajon CA...cost $250, built, coated and installed. Bolts to floor pan and thru the wheel wells. Jack plated inside and out...

The one above...not a flame just an observation...appears to have only two mounting points. Most rules require four point mounts for a legal bar with a cross brace....

Just my $.02.

BTW....I did lose a bit of rear seat movement, but I am only 5'10". However, belted in I had to move the seat up MORE than where I normally drive to reach 3rd and 5th gears.

Now that I am used to the NEW position I do not move it back. A benefit, my back does not hurt as much on a long drive from reaching for the upper gears.

Mike F. They are 7x17 and 8x17. Same as what came on an RS America.

The roll bar does have 4 mounting points. The only thing I modified was where the rear downward-angle mounts attached to the main hoop. They are lower and now attach to the outer rear seatbelt anchors.

I can pass the broomstick test by lowering the seats to their max. (8-way electrics) Plus the backrests are higher than MikeZ's I believe, so the bar is taller than it looks. It is standard Autopower height.

Tyson, so the mount points have only one bolt holding each mount?

Seems a little skimpy to me.....is there any reason for using the seat belt mounts?

As a racer who has been run thru the ringer during tech inspection, I would think that would be a red flag...by comparison, my mounts have four bolts each....
