installing 75 muffler
i removed my muffler to adjust the valves etc.. not too difficult, i had to cut off te nuts. It is much easier to gain access to the left side of the engine with the muffler off..
Putting it back was not fun at first. i wrestled with installation for a while.. it is hard to do with one person. what ended up working foe me is to hold it up and put in a bolt through the lower exhaust muffler flange and into teh flange on the silencer...this will support the muffler enough so that you can squeeze the muffler clamp and get the bolt to catch a few threads.

I dont see what removing the muffler has to do with setting the valves.

Is this supposed to be in the "what not to do thread"?
My cars' valves are on the side and the exhaust is at the rear. |

Maybe he removed the cat. converter or premuffler, not the ACTUAL muffler?

removed the muffler for timing chains
but after i removed it, i realized that it made adjusting the left side exhaust valves a lot easier... and since it was easy to remove, i think it would make the valve job go a faster the next time as it only takes 3 bolts and nuts and the 2 clamp bolts to remove it from my car.

Interesting - which muffler do you have? I have a stock muffler on my '75 Targa with SSI exhaust. None of the exhaust or muffler was in the way at all for doing the lower left side valve cover. (I did have the left side of the car up on ramps to get all the oil to the other side, which in turn also gave me some extra access underneath.)

have stock system
the stock 75 system has a silencer on the left side and access is tight. With the muffler off you can come in from the back easier, at least i thought so. Only takes a few minutes to remove the 3 nuts and the 2 clamp bolts. and the cost to replace the gaskets, bolts and nuts is a few dollars.
