Long Distance Shipping. Suggestions?
To make a long story short, I'm looking to get my non-running 911 from Columbus Georgia to Albany New York, about 1100 miles. So far the most economical option I've come up with is a one-way U-Haul rental for around $760 (I'm heading home for the holidays anyway so I'd fly back later).
Anybody have any other suggestions? Price is the big sticking point because the less I spend on hauling it, the more I can put into rebuilding the engine and transmission (and finally get back to driving it!).

I doubt you'll be able to beat $760. We pay at least $1000 for the same haul, sometimes a little more. Are you dropping your car at R&D? If you're in Albany, you can't do any better. We're about 30 mins south of Albany. - Matt

Yup, R&D. I've worked with them in the past and I've never once heard anyone complain about them. They do great work, real enthusiast too.
I kinda figured Uhaul would be the cheapest bet. I'll probably just do that then, saves me a plane ticket anyway. And I didn't know you guys were so close, I'll have to stop by when I'm home |

You can flat tow a 911 with just about anything. Hook up is easy with just a little resourcefulness. I flat towed Alfa GTV6 with my old 928 from L.A. to Michigan and another one from Nashville to Lansing with a Renault Fuego and it was no strain. Once, in 1972, I burned out an engine near Vegas, bought a $100 Lincoln and spent another hundred with a welder fabricating a hitch and tow bar (which I still own.) Oh, sold the Lincoln for $120 two weeks later. That's the cheapest solution that I can come up with. Don't forget to include fuel costs in your truck rental.
