Angry Virus Alert

I had an e-mail from someone this morning RE:964 oil leak. It was an e-mail that was a reply to someone, but for some reason I received it. I didn't recognize the address. It had a bugbear something or other attatchment. It was a .scr file. Norton caught it and I deleted it imediatly. So I can't remember the details but beware if you get an e-mail with Porsche content and you don't remember posting to that thread.

Guys,

THis particular e-mail is very insidious. Certain incarnations can execute itself on your computer without you actually opening the attachment.

Here's the 411. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nf/20021007/tc_nf/19602

In other words, your preview window in your e-mail program can activate it. If you get one of these e-mails that has the attachement, I would recommend looking fro a fix immediately.

I opened the e-mail but not the attachment in Yahoo. I scanned the attachment with Norton. It caught it and I forwarded the e-mail to Yahoo, then deleted it. Am I safe?
I just ran InoculateIT and it found nothing.

For those who done have Virus Scan...

BugBear Cleaner

This is a self contained virus cleaner. I would Trust the NAI product over Norton any day.

If you have windows, install IE 5.5 service pack 2 and that eliminates the exploit that is used by bugbear.

That picture is so WRONG!

If you open in a program like Yahoo, you're fine because it never hit your computer. It's only if you have a local e-mail program like Eudora or Outlook.
