what's the weight of an SC engine?
I plan to lower my engine and gearbox in order to do some serious rebuilding this winter.
To be "prepared" and have enough muscle around, what does that engine weigh? and the gearbox? ('80 SC) So far what must be the most RTFM question ever on this board, sorry for that, just can't find the info... Thanks, Bart. |
3.0SC complete weighs about 450, just shipped one over the summer. If you pad the floorjack carefully you can roll it out from under with a buddy (this assumes a good-sized shop floorjack). I think the tranny weighs 90-100 but I've never weighed it.

Thanks, you're talking pounds, wright?

About 205 Kilos for the engine, and 45 for the transmission

Oops sorry for being so inconsiderate, I didn't see Belgium in your location. Yes that was lbs. AFJuvat has it converted right. ;) One of these days us silly Yanks will convert to the more sensible metric system (I hope). |
About 75 lbs. less that an iron block small block chevy with headers and an aluminium intake manifold :-)

SC engine -- 200 kg ... 441 lbs
Early Mg case 915 -- 54 kg ... 119 lbs -- Alu case a bit more! |
Yep, Bart, I just checked in my Paul Frère book and the previous replies are all in the right league: about 205 kilos, for the DRY engine, and without the gearbox.
If you're setting a firm date for dropping your engine (and to contribute to a beer- if not blue-blooded Pelican tradition, let me know: I can propose my considerably little musclepower and whatever knowledge I have! |
205 Kilo's ... damn!
OK, Paul's in for the beer and the muscle! (the beer will actually be consumated this weekend) Bart. (PS GoGo metric!) |
