Octane question

I was just reading the MFI manual and it states that for my year car=72 that I should run 87 octane. Does anyone go by this.
Thanks for any replies

Yep i do. The MFI was designed to run on 87, and there's no reason to run higher octane unless you've modified the compression ratio. I'm not an expert, but its a bit 'harder' to ignite the higher octane gasoline and it burns longer, which can possible change the way your car runs if your MFI is well tuned. I've always heard the rule of thumb is use the best quality, lowest octane gas you can get http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif

With the low compression of those engines, 7.5 for T, 8.0 for E, 8.5 for S and 2.7RS, 91ROZ(US reg leaded,87) was sufficient. The relatively large overlap of the S/RS cams further reduces octane requirements.
