Problems fitting Dansk muffler on 1986 Turbo Look with SSI HE's

Hi Guys,
I bought a muffler in the used parts forum last week that I am pretty sure is a Dansk 2 in 1 out muffler for a 74 and I am having trouble fitting it to my car. When I try to mount it up it is hitting on the bracket for the muffler and you can't get anywhere near lining up the flanges with the SSI flanges to bolt them up. I removed the bracket and I can get closer to lining up the flanges but the lip on the muffler still hits on the engine tin, (see pic attached). Do I need to buy the bracket for the 1974, do I need to grind or cut that lip and have the muffler rewelded or it is just not going to fit?

I trimmed the lip area on the Dansk and then had it re-welded. I also cut out a slice from the bracket to allow the muffler to fit.

The old muffler was apparently installed by an orangutang as it was just beat to hell with a mallet in that area to "make" it fit.

It's probably a good idea to trim the bracket first since it's all you may need to do. I cut the trimmed the Dansk first and it wasn't enough so still had to cut the bracket. Car is up on stands at the moment changing oil and doing some other maintenance so you get a picture.

I don't really want to beat on the muffler unless last resort I beat on my m&k to fit it to a set of headers and ended changing the alignment of the flanges and it would be a lot of beating besides. Has anybody tried using the bracket from a 74? If not cutting the bracket is an idea I had not thought of thanks
