XENON 7" units for older Pcars

Anyone use these type of kits for the porsches that had the old sealed beam units before? I seen a guy on E-bay selling them, and had to find the company to see what they are selling for. The guy quoted 99.00 for the kit...including the glass with opening in back and the H4 xenon blue/whites.
Anyone try these yet?

Tlook,
All I can tell you is that for $99, you are NOT getting the real deal. Real xenon/HID lights for for about $1K, with the Porsche "Litronic" at something like $1400. Something like that. I upgraded my sealed beams to H4s and put PIAA Super whites in them. They do a wonderful job of lighting the road. It also depends what you want to put in them. Generic or non generic bulbs? PIAAs go for about $60 a pair, generics start from $15.

Several companys make 7" round lenses Hella is the brand I have used in the past should be able to buy them in most large cities. Then it's just a matter of waht bulb you want to buy. Be carefull of using a to high of wattage and burning up the wiring and the light switch.

Jeff is correct - real HID lights (called Litronic by Porsche) are in the upper hundreds to $1000+

Certain bulb mfrs such as PIAA actually are manufacturing H4 replacement bulbs that contain some xenon gas mixed in with halon; also, some of the bulbs have a HID-like blue tint cast into the glass. They can legitimately call them "xenon" bulbs but they are not the same as the true high-voltage high-output xenon systems.

I'm sure these bulbs look cool and are probably quite bright; however, it is highly doubtful that they are actually any brighter than stock bulbs of the same wattage. In fact, some folks say that regular white bulbs are actually brighter than the blue tinted ones.

Here's a link (this site contains a ton of great lighting info):

By the way, YES you can and should get some Hella 7" H4 lamps for your p-car! They pop right in and are a great upgrade for the USA DOT spec sealed beams.

Porsche Crest

Now http://www.sylvania.com makes a Xenon conversion for older cars with sealed beam headlights. Right now they lowered the price from $795.95 to $499.00. What the nice thing is the lights also have a H1 high beam installed along with the D2R Xenon bulb "The same type that Porsche use for the Litronic," and they made a bridge that lets the you use the low beams "Xenons" with the high beams "Halogen" at the same time. The Xenon's only use 3.5 Amps each while producing 3X the light. 100W halogen bulbs may use 10-12 Amps each while producing 1.5X the light of a 55W low beam. So if you really need light go with the Xenon convertion and with low and high beams on you'll get about 4.5-5 times the light output while using less power. Did I mention the Xenon bulbs last for at least 10 years.
Also you might want to try www.hids4less.com

Phillips has a true HID kid which is plug and play, although you'll have to find somewhere near the bulb to mount two square shaped boxes about as big as 2 fairly large matchboxes. 1 per side, they boost the output and power the bulbs........cool stuff, but I'd bet it would be hard to retrofit them to the 911 because there's no room inside the fender for them. If I remember correctly there was someone who did this conversion to their 930 on either this board or Rennlist (silver car I believe) and the results were pretty good.

xenon's

Yes I believe they would. But the sylvania kit gives you everything inculding new lenses. They also give you plenty of cord to mount the ballist. "those square boxes" Just go to the web site. Here is the link http://www.sylvania.com/xenarc/prodinfo.htm

YOU'LL GET THE MODEL X6024.

Or if you want just the Xenon lights with out the high beams go to www.hids4less.com and get the H4 kits that are about 550.00 and include a 5 year warranty.
